Air Jordan V – Jordan Tokyo 23 Collection
Jordan Brand’s Tokyo center is called, appropriately, Jordan Tokyo 23. And while the shop is still under construction, there is no better way to get the hype train fired up than releasing photos of models crafted to celebrate the shop’s release. The main draw will be this yellow suede Air Jordan V (5) Retro, as its striking black and yellow (just try to not hum along to the Whiz song!) colorway already has people stateside begging for a domestic release. The outsole on the bottom even features a yellow jumpman, while the shop’s logo is embroidered onto the heel. The rumor is that it will release in late April, but rest assured that we will have the information for you as soon as they become available.
Jordan Kick Names T-Shirt
While there is no single source of where it came from, the nicknames dubbed by fans to each Air Jordan releases served as an easily identifiable marker for the editions. In addition, its purpose transcends merely just an object of desirability but as something of emotional memorabilia. Asked any Jordan aficionados where they were when the “Cool Grey” came out last December or the “Playoffs”, and they will recount each moment to the seconds. And for those new to this brotherhood of fanatics, there is the Jordan Kick Names T-Shirt, a “cheat sheet” of all the popular Air Jordan models conveniently printed on 100% cotton tee. Even if you don’t own a pair of AJs, the tees still make a great reference source to popular culture and street lingo. Available now through NikeStore.com
Stussy x Nike Sky Force 88 Mid Preview
Stussy has once again joined forces with Nike to create these soon-to-be-released sneakers. Choosing the Nike Sky Force 88 Mid model, Stussy has opted for four different colorways. Camo versions feature a mix of solid color leather sections with canvas camo print toe and side panels will sell along side a wheat and an all black colorway. The Stussy SS Link logo has been embossed onto the tongue area, placed over the basketball of the classic Force Mid 88 logo. These sneakers are set to release in Japan in the near future with a retail set at ¥13,650 JPY (approximately 1,060RMB).
Supreme – Spring 2011 T-Shirts
After successions of winter storms and a freakishly cold Spring, Supreme, the Lafayette Street staple, is here to remind us that warmer weather is just ahead with a set of 6 graphic t-shirts. Unlike some of the more “snarky” graphics in the past, the new assortment is straight forward, with one as a tribute to late Soul music great Curtis Mayfield. The t-shirts will be available this Thursday, April 14th, at Supreme’s North America retail locations and online store, follow by availability at its Japan retail points this Saturday, April 16th.
Air Jordan VII (7) – Year Of The Rabbit & Bordeaux
This has shaped up to be the year of the Air Jordan VII (7) retro. Adding to the well-received Year of the Rabbit Air Force 1 and Air Jordan 2011, what better paring of animal and shoe than the “Hare” and this model that bore that name twenty years ago? This limited release features a monochromatic tongue, unlike that of the Bordeaux colorway due out soon, and a simple, direct colorway of white, red, grey, and gold. This has a more than slight resemblance to the Hare model first released in 1991, apart from the multicolored tongue and the red detailing on the jumpman, heel tab and laces, which are replaced by a dark gold/bronze.
While 19 years is a long time, the constant recollections by fans and the nostalgic images from that fateful 1992 NBA All-Star Game made us forget just how long this wait is, more accurately, the wait was. First worn by Michael Jordan at the 1992 NBA All-Star Game, the Air Jordan VII (7) in Black/Light Graphite-Bordeaux, or simply known as Bordeaux, was never on re-release schedule set by Jordan Brand till next Saturday, April 16th, when Jordan retailers around the globe will begin to sell them once again. Because of its rarity, its often deemed as one of the most sought after Jordan models. Let’s hope it won’t be another 19 years for us to see its return again.

Its getting cold, need I say much more?
I’ll elaborate for you if you are new to Shanghai… those of us that have survived a few winters here are starting to feel the familiar ache of the humid bone penetrating cold air of Shanghai in Winters, and we are starting to fear frost bite… its coming, and this blog is here to help you prepare ~ I’ll sum it up with 4 words:
Get a down jacket.
“Why” you ask?
“Well” I say:
They are warm, fluffy, and totally on trend this season.
This puffy shiny trend right fashion statement will keep you from freezing your ass off while you’re standing in front of a Lawsons at 3 am waiting for your friends ~ and shivering partners in crime will be so jealous… especially if you have a fluffy fur lined hood.
My favorite down designs this season are coming from Moncler, but look around ~ you can find them everywhere and anywhere, and of all shapes, sizes, colors, and price points.
The accessory you can’t live without this season is a great hat.
Lets start with the guys ~ because this little addition to your look takes you from average to eye catching with absolutely no effort. It even saves you time from fumbling with your hair. Hats look great on everyone, a classic style for men is the fedora ~ right now you can find them in all kinds of fabrics and colors. For a simple classic look, go for a black felt model, if you are more fearsome with your fashion, take a printed fabric ~ or even one of the more fashionable Tokyo shapes tipped up with a lower crown and short brim. There are also great driving caps, and modern shapes to be found for men these days.
For the ladies ~ you have oh so many choices. Felt caps, Fedoras, & Cocktail hats (also known as “fascinators”) are some of this seasons top choices. I love the Modern Vintage style of pillbox hats. They are smaller low profile styles that can pin into your hair to secure. They look so classy. You can also opt for really fun decorative pieces on clips or headbands for nights out on the town. For daytime traffic stopping headwear, I’d suggest a well-crafted fedora, clean classic lines with a unique trim.
For most of these looks you can find inexpensive ready-made hats around town in retailers like H&M or Zara. Check out local Xinle lu shops for mid-range prices & more unique styles. OR if you are ready to invest in a handcrafted piece designed specifically for you ~ call me. I studied Millinery from one of the worlds finest Milliners: PinkHammillinery I can make anything your little hat wearing heart desires right here in Shanghai. Fur Fur Fur
I’m sorry it’s been so long since my last fashion update. To tell you the truth, I’ve found Shanghai to be a little uninspiring lately; I’ve been shopping the city high and low looking for something I just couldn’t live without, something hot to rock in the streets of Shanghai in the bone chilling winter months ahead of us.
Low and behold I finally found it in the streets of Tokyo last week.
Japanese girls all over the city were giving new meaning to the street slang “chasing a piece of tail” by actually wearing tails. Yes, real tails. (well, in the fairness of nature, these were eco conscious nicely made faux fur tails) but you get my point right? Imagine millions of hot little Japanese girls marching around the city with a fluffy tail swinging from left to right off her ass.
Okay… get a tissue and get back to my blog.
I’m not sure if tails will really take off worldwide, my boyfriend insisted that I buy one, and I did indeed rock it around Shanghai yesterday. Survey says it was received well… one Chinese girl at the fabric market even copped a feel while I was looking at buttons, I pretended not to notice, and I’m pretty sure she pretended not to be jealous.
But back to my point ~ which is Fur, preferably the faux kind, and the two ways that you absolutely must be wearing it this winter:
1) On your legs. Winter fashion and boots go hand in hand. Ladies love them and guys love ladies in them. It’s a perfect relationship. Ranking just as high as tails on the fur factor were fur covered knee boots. You can get them anywhere. I also found a great pair of faux fur leg warmers. These are ideal because I can wear them with any of the boots I already own. You could even make a pair of furry leg warmers in any color you like at the fabric market. When I was racing home from M2 the other night on my scooter at 3 am, not only did I look haute with them draped over my Louboutin ankle boots…. But I was toasty warm. Who said fashion isn’t practical?
2) On your head. Soft furry hats are SO on target this season. Well, hats in general are on trend, but that will be my next blog. For now, start with a low profile fur hat, a soft beanie style will look best on most faces. I’ll admit, mine does say 100% rabbit fur on the inside, but hey ~ I’m a vegetarian & the amount of animals that have died for me are perhaps less than the guys ordering a medium rare steak at Fulton right now. If you are less fearsome, go for the gold with a nice big fluffy shaped one… everyone will be jealous come January when you are warm and they have frost bite.
I shouldn’t really have to say much more, however if you are not savvy to this hip movement, here’s the deal. Tom gives a new pair of shoes to a kid that needs them every time someone purchases a pair. We can all get behind a movement in humanity like that, right? Not to mention, these are quiet possibly the most comfortable shoes ever made, I think I will be wearing my ash grey pair until they fall off my feet. For a woman with hundreds of shoes, that’s a pretty incredible statement.
Guys can rock them with just about anything, and the cutest girls I’ve seen in TOMS are wearing shorts or rompers (the hot pant kind of rompers!)
For putting this look together in Shanghai… I’d suggest ordering your TOMS online & then getting your H&M on in town.
One for One.
I wonder what kid is getting to enjoy a pair of TOMS as much as I am.
Summer is finally showing her colors in Shanghai cityscapes and the windows of your local wears are starting to brighten up as well.
This Spring, make it your earth friendly goal to recycle all the old plastics in your house ~ you know that drawer filling up with bags you had to buy because you forgot to carry your stylish shopper to the market. Toss them out to the recycling carts and for the love of fashion, don’t forget to leave your Crocs at the corner too.
This season focus first on your footwear. The more people there are in a city the more time you will spend looking down at their kicks. Make yours shine and you might even be able to rock them at M1nt this summer.
There are a few great places in Shanghai to satisfy sneaker fiends, my favorite place to look is a street culture staple on Xinle lu, Source. You can find everything trending there from minimalism to rock solid bling and limited edition artist collaborations. Peek around a little longer and you might find something else that catches your eye to complete the look… and hopefully you’ll be dropping jaws in the metro too.
Street style has a wonderful way of being easy to assemble. Now that you have your kicks in order ~ find a great pair of jeans. Shredded, faded, tumbled, washed, worn, ripped, skinny, and just waiting for you to rock them all summer long. For girls I’d even go as far as to suggest getting yourself extra fit that you can rock the ever present shanghai staple also know as ~ the denim hot pant. Was there ever a greater design idea? Its arguable… just make sure you sport a well worn wash this season, pair it with the highest heels money can buy you on Shaanxi nan lu and you’ll be ripe for the picking this summer.
Last but not least…. Tee’s, Tee’s, and more Tee’s ~ the attack of the T-shirt is coming this Spring like you’ve never seen it before. Graphics are everywhere, in Shanghai, you’ve Uniqlo, American Apparel and H&M cranking out new styles every two weeks, so there’s plenty of room for updating your look. Girls can even get on the retro trend and try out loose shapes or even create your own custom look by cutting off the sleeves, or cutting out the neckband to make a boat neck or an off the shoulder tee….
Last but not least… grab some gold accessories. They are sexy, and so hot on trend you might be caught digging through your granny’s jewelry box to find forgotten treasures.
Peace & Love,
